Across the country, recital series are closing its doors, but Portland Piano International is thriving now in its 41st season with audiences clamoring for more. Having featured all the great pianists from Mitsuko Uchida to Lang Lang, Portland Piano features six solo artists who perform two separate programs over the course of two days. They recently announced the magnificent Marc-André Hamelin will be their first Guest Curator for the 2019/2020 season. This new model introduces a revolutionary format to chamber music where a well-known artist chooses other artists for one concert season. It is a departure from the normal "artistic director" model, but should certainly bring great acclaim to this forward-thinking nonprofit.
