In response to the 2014 algae bloom in Lake Erie, Cleveland composer Margaret Brouwer decided to create an environmental oratorio with hopes of increasing interest around Lake Erie and other threatened bodies of water.
The first-ever concert season pops youth orchestra has been created in Cleveland, Ohio, with 50 young musicians forming the Cleveland Pops Youth Orchestra (CPYO). This invention is an educational and performing ensemble under the Cleveland Pops Orchestra founded by Pops Conductor Carl Topilow and President and CEO Shirley Morgenstern.
If he could have started earlier, Carl Topilow would have begun piano lessons at an early age. The well-known conductor and musician, by this time already an accomplished clarinetist, began to practice the piano frantically and fiendishly.
The 2018-19 Cleveland Orchestra Music Study Groups will begin on September 25, 26, and 27 at convenient community locations throughout the Greater Cleveland area. The classes explore music from The Cleveland Orchestra’s 2018-19 Season at Severance Hall. The series is organized into three sessions, so registrants may choose a series length to best fit their schedule — selecting from fall, winter, and/or spring.
