Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin Curates Nine-Concert Perspective Series at Carnegie Hall

The Perspective Series Includes a Rare Recital Appearance with Fellow Carnegie Hall Perspectives Artist Mezzo-Soprano Joyce DiDonato

Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin has curated a nine-concert Perspectives series set for the 2019-2020 season. Throughout this series, Nézet-Séguin will lead three remarkable orchestras, each responsible for helping him build his extraordinary career— The Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, and The MET Orchestra—as well as a rare recital appearance with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato.

The spring concerts for the Perspective series will include a complete Beethoven Symphony Circle from The Philadelphia Orchestra as a part of a season-long Beethoven celebration.

The series kicks off Tuesday, October 15 at 8 PM in the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage of Carnegia Hall, where Yannick will lead The Philadelphia Orchestra in the New York premiere of Valerie Coleman’s Umoja, R. Strauss’s Eine Alpensinfonie, and Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3, with Hélène Grimaud.

Following that performance, Nézet-Séguin will conduct again the next month in Montreal on Friday, November 22 at 8 PM with the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal. This will mark their first U.S. tour, which, of course, means their Carnegie Hall debut. They will perform Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4, “Romantic” alongside Mozart arias sung by mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, another Perspectives artist.

DiDonatao will perform alongside Nézet-Séguin again in the December 15 performance of Schubert’s Winterreise (2 PM at Carnegie Hall)

Returning in both March and April, Nézet-Séguin will lead The Philadelphia Orchestra in four concerts wholly devoted to a cornerstone of the orchestral repertoire—the complete symphonies of Beethoven. This is a central part of the Carnegie Hall celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday anniversary.

The concert cycle begins on Friday, March 13 at 8:00 p.m. with symphonies nos. 5 and 6, “Pastoral,” and continues the following Friday, March 20 at 8:00 p.m. with symphonies nos. 2 and 3, “Eroica.” They return for symphonies nos. 8, 4, and 7 on Thursday, March 26 at 8:00 p.m. The cycle is completed on Friday, April 3 at 8:00 p.m. featuring symphonies nos. 1 and 9 with soprano Angel Blue, mezzo-soprano Mihoko Fujimura, tenor Rolando Villazón, baritone Quinn Kelsey, and the Westminster Symphonic Choir under the direction of Joe Miller.

The final two concerts of Nézet-Séguin’s series will occur June 2020 with The MET Orchestra, the first on June 12 at 8 PM and the second on June 16 at 8 PM featuring violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and soprano Elza van den Heever, respectively.
