New York’s Young People’s Chorus Big Sing Event Returns Oct. 19, 2019

Young People’s Chorus (YPC) Big Sing

The 2019 Young People’s Chorus (YPC) Big Sing makes its epic return on Oct. 19, 2019, with the hopes of igniting and inspiring musical talent, fostering human connection, and encouraging harmonization throughout the city.

What’s been notably described as a magnificent sing-along for the people of New York, the Big Sing event combines a ~600-voice choir composed of anyone and everyone who loves to sing—people of all ages, all backgrounds standing side-by-side and joining in song as they harmonize their message throughout New York.

The sing-off is set to begin at 3 pm at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019. Though the event is being led by YPC Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez and Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Núñez, they will be joined by special guests at various points throughout the entire event.

Among those honored and exciting guests include Carnegie Hall’s Nick Demeris, a renowned artist most notably recognized for his human-instrument orchestras and Midtown, a young quartet from the barbershop and a capella realm to put a unique, fresh spin on the event.

While the prospect of an enormous sing-along might seem daunting, the YPC has the procedure down to a science. While the Big Sing organizers display lyrics projected onstage, the conductors lead and direct the audience, and the YPC choristers guide audience members in signing the musical harmonies.

The public is welcomed and encouraged to purchase tickets to be a part of the city-wide sing-along.

The Young People’s Chorus of New York City is an internationally renowned multicultural youth chorus famous for its virtuosity and showmanship. The program, founded by Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez in 1988, has made it its mission for the past 31 years to heighten the awareness of young people’s abilities to rise to unforeseen artistic heights. Annually, over 2,000 children—ranging in age from 8-18 of any and every cultural and economic background—participate in YPC’s acclaimed program. The YPC has been recognized with the highest American honors for youth programs, the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award.
