New York, rejoice—your classical music concert lineup is in for the week. The good news? This week is packed with classical music concerts that you won’t want to miss! The bad news? If you can’t spend every night attending a classical music concert (which, we totally encourage, by the way) you’ll have to choose among them! 

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2019 

AMERICAN COMPOSERS ORCHESTRA

Concert Details:  Join celebrated Metropolitan Opera star Jamie Barton as she sings Ives songs that are newly orchestrated by innovative, American composers like Hilary Purrington and Hannah Lash. This performance will feature the world premiere of Harp of Nerves (for guitar and orchestra) from Purrington, as well as Matthew Aucoin’s work for chamber orchestra entitled Evidence.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2019 

INON BARNATAN, PIANO

Concert Details:  Called one of the “most admired pianists of his generation” (The New York Times), Inon Barnatan is a dynamic, versatile, and virtuosic pianist who’s Nov. 14 performance you won’t want to miss! His unique program will include work from Stevenson, Mendelssohn, Gershwin, and Schubert. 

When: Thursday, November 14, 2019. 7:30 PM, EDT.

NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC: TCHAIKOVSKY, SIBELIUS, AND BRYCE DESSNER 

Concert Details: Embark on a night of romance, epic, and atmosphere as The Philharmonic performs Sibelius’ First Symphony with Bryce Dessner—a featured guest from the Grammy-award winning band The National. This program will also include Dessner’s NY premiere of his own piece, Wires, a riveting fusion of sound and rhythm. Can’t catch the Thursday performance? Two additional performances will be held on Friday, November 15 at 8 PM and Saturday, November 16 at 8 PM.

CHICAGO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA 

Concert Details:  Join the CSO and conductor Riccardo Muti’s journey through Rome with a riveting performance of the operatic powers of Bizet’s Roma, Berlioz’s La mort de Cleopatre, and Respighi’s Pine of Rome, featuring Mezzo-Soprano Joyce DiDonato. Can’t make it to CSO’s Friday performance? Catch CSO’s second performance on November 16 at 8 PM.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2019 

RADOSLAW SOBCZAK, PIANO

Concert Details: Join acclaimed concert pianist Radoslaw Sobczak for a free concert as he performs two romantic, epic sonatas by Polish composers Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Karol Szymanowski. This performance is presented for free by the Library for the Performing Arts.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2019 

NEW YORK YOUTH SYMPHONY  

Concert Details: Featured pianist Harmony Zhu makes her Carnegie Hall debut with a performance of a masterwork from Beethoven. This program includes a world premiere by Marco-Adrian Ramos, as well as work from Rimsky-Korsakov. 

When: Sunday, November 17, 2019. 2 PM, EDT.
