Jason Vieaux Will Perform Music by Bach, Scarlatti, Giuliani, Ellington, and More

Award-winning classical guitarist Jason Vieaux will perform on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at 8 PM as presented in recital by U.S. Classical Guitar’s Los Angeles International Guitar Series.

The performance, which will be held at the First Congregational Church (540 S Commonwealth Ave), will feature Vieaux presenting a musical journey including selections from his 2015 Grammy-winning album, Play. A few of the selections include pieces like Domenico Scarlatti’s Sonata in A major, K. 208 (arr. Brouwer); Mauro Giuliani’s Variations on a Theme by Handel, Op. 107; J.S. Bach’s Violin Sonata 1 in G minor, BWV 1001; Frank Martin’s Quatre pièces brèves; Agustin Barrios Vals No. 4 in G Major; Antônio Carlos Jobim’s A Felicidade (arr. Dyens); Duke EllingtonIn a Sentimental Mood (arr. Vieaux); and Luis Merlín’s Suite del Recuerdo.

Vieaux is described as “among the elite of today’s classical guitarists” (Gramophone), going above and beyond the classical. NPR has described Vieaux as “perhaps the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation.” All of this high praise and more has earned Vieaux a reputation for putting his expressiveness and virtuosity at the service of a hugely diverse, wide range of music—often meaning his schedule of performing and recording commitments are distinguished throughout the U.S. and abroad.

He’s performed as a concerto soloist with 100+ orchestras, including distinguished orchestras such as Cleveland, Toronto, Houston, Nashville, San Diego, Buffalo, Auckland Philharmonia, and Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Further, he’s forged a reputation as a first-rate chamber musician and programmer through performances with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Bard Music Festival, Music@Menlo, San Francisco Performances, Cleveland Chamber Music Society, Strings Music Festival, Grand Teton, and many others.

In addition to the Saturday, December 7 performance, Vieaux will present a masterclass at the church the day before the performance (Friday, December 6, 2019, from 6-7 PM). Tickets to the class, which is open to the public, start at $30.
