Classical Post Awards 2019: Project Fusion, Most Innovative Instrumentalist: Woodwinds
Saxophone quartet Project Fusion was created not to just entertain, but inspire—even further, to promote camaraderie among artists through unique, innovative collaborations. Past winners of the 2015 Astral National Auditions, Project Fusion has been praised for creating engaging and communicative concerts that are made even more remarkable by their performance of complex, intricate pieces exclusively from memory. Of course, they’re known for much more than their memory—their performances are marked by signatures such as diverse musical programming that includes new music, arrangements, transcription, and the standard repertoire for a saxophone quartet.
Award-winning musicians, this saxophone quartet is about more than just playing music, in fact, their partnership with a variety of programs (such as Playing and Preserving) captures their commitment to sharing classical music with everyone, honoring their commitment and even their namesake (Project Fusion’s name is derived from the philosophy that music is an infinite, ongoing project guided by a sense of adventure and creativity)—with their creative and innovative spirit in mind, it only makes sense they’d win our Most Innovative Instrumentalist Award for woodwinds.
