The Award-Winning Ensemble Will Perform in Chicago on Friday, November 8, 2019

The Berlin-based ensemble Vision String Quartet is set to make its long-awaited debut in Chicago in early November. The ensemble, a group that has earned a reputation for vibrant programs that are performed both standing and from memory, will perform in Mandell Hall as a part of the UChicago Presents Classical Concerts Series.

Established in 2012, the Vision String Quartet has been developing and expanding concert experiences for string quartet audiences in its own, unique, and much-celebrated way. The ensemble specializes in performing both classical and pop repertoires, for which it has won top prizes, such as the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy competition and at the International Concours de Genève.

This collaborative, innovative vision offers audiences both intense and intimate interpretations of several genres.

The ensemble is also noted for its unique, signature flourish—performing entirely from memory while standing up. This creates an atmosphere of energy, freedom, and singular interpretations of the quartet’s repertoire.

For the UChicago performance, the Vision String Quartet will perform quartets ranging from the “father” of the genre, Franz Joseph Haydn, to the Romanticist Robert Schumann and twentieth-century Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz (whose music has been largely unheard in the West).

The performance will take place in Mandel Hall at the University of Chicago at 7:30 PM, EDT on Friday, November 8. Prior to the performance, a pre-concert lecture on the program will be offered by Florian Walch.
