Handel and Haydn Society Will Make Double Christmastime Appearances in New York

The H+H Society Will Appear Twice in December 2019 in New York 

The Boston-based, globally renowned Handel and Haydn Society will make a double appearance in December this year in New York. 

The Handel and Haydn Society, a 204-year-old body of singers and instrumentalists who specialize in authentic Baroque and classical music traditions, will return to New York in two of the city’s most anticipated holiday season performances, which are set to occur simultaneously. 

On December 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21, 2019, the H + H Society Chorus, which is “internationally respected for its precision and ability to make complex polyphony speak in the most cavernous of halls” (Boston Music Intelligencer), will make their New York Philharmonic debut and first Lincoln Center appearance in more than two decades as they perform Handel’s immortal Messiah. 

Soloists Soprano Louise Alder, Countertenor Iestyn Davies, Tenor Joshua Ellicott, and Baritone Dashon Burton are featured in this performance and led by acclaimed English Conductor Harry Bicket.

Then, on December 23, led by Concertmaster Aisslinn Nosky, the H + H Society will present Christmastime with the Strads on the other side of Manhattan at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This performance is highlighted by Nosky playing “The Gould” Stradivarius, a prized 1693 violin on view at the Met in Gallery 684.
