Classical Post Awards 2019: Nicholas McGegan / Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Most Innovative Presenter: Orchestra

Classical Post Awards Nic McGegan

Under the leadership of Nicholas McGegan (who’s embarking on his fifth decade on the podium and has long been hailed one of the “finest baroque conductors of his generation” [London Independent]), the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra is this year’s Classical Post Award-winner for Most Innovative Presenter, Orchestra Category.

With a mission to present audiences throughout the world with historically informed performances of the music from the Baroque, Classical, and Early Romantic Periods as well as new music, the Philharmonia is famous for using period-instruments and vocal techniques that are meant to capture the entirety of those time periods—the sound, the style, and the spirit, too. Their entirety is based on the fundamental beliefs that great music is universal; the opportunity for audiences today to hear great works and authentic instruments from the past is an honored legacy that must be preserved for the betterment of future generations; and, of course, that period instrument performances that are executed at their highest level will create a distinct sound and a one-of-a-kind listening experience.

The Philharmonia’s stunning 2019/2020 season will lead them through a powerful blend of incredible juxtaposition of classical and new music, as well as a significant focus on their new work commissioned by PBO from Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw.

📣 Free Masterclass for Artists

If you’ve enjoyed this conversation, I’d love to share something I created that expands on many of the ideas we explore here on Classical Post.

I recorded a free Masterclass designed specifically for classical musicians who want to:

✅ Book more concerts

✅ Increase their performance fees

✅ Build visibility with presenters, agents, and collaborators

This is the same visibility strategy I’ve used in my work with artists at Gold Sound Media—approaches that have helped them land major engagements and grow their careers in meaningful, measurable ways.

📩 Enter your email below and I’ll send you the link to watch the Masterclass on YouTube.

It’s practical, actionable, and designed for artists who are ready to stop waiting and start being seen.
