Window In Combines Music and Photography for An Immersive Experience

CP_MikeValleraNight.jpg

You may not know the name Michael Vallera yet, but you should. Vallera is an original and masterful composer, and photographer who sees art as total consumption rather than just something singular. His newest record, releasing on Friday, March 27th 2020, comes out on German label Denovali Records, which houses renowned electronic composers like Mario Diaz de Leon.

Window In is Vallera’s third full length offering on the Denovali label, following All Perfect Days (2018) and Vivid Flu (2017). The four tracks that compose Window In are an exercise in density, movement, and space. You can expect many layers of artistry in this record: Window In has been designed to offer a filmic view of the environment the music was born within—the expanding and flashing grid of the city, as it quietly empties into the lake. Vallera, a Chicagoan, is rooted in experimental and improvised music. His work as a noted photographer informs his musical vision.

Vallera is prolific as both a solo artist and collaborator, having released albums under his own name and as COIN (Denovali / Opal Tapes), with percussionist Steven Hess as Cleared (Immune Recordings), and with Joseph Clayton Mills as Maar (Umor Rex, Entr’acte). An MFA graduate of School of the Art Institute of Chicago, his work has been exhibited in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and elsewhere.

Window In’s four tracks include the title track, as well as Blue Mind, Deep Sleeping Exit, and Hours.
