New York Youth Symphony Orchestra: #PleaseDontStopTheMusic

New York Youth Symphony Orchestra

New York Youth Symphony Orchestra

The NYC based New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) Orchestra has created an impressive video of Mahler's Symphony No. 1, Titan

71 members of NYYS, who range in age from 12-22, came together virtually from home isolation to perform the opening of the uplifting second movement. The video was released on the 18th birthday of NYYS violinist Raina Tung, who edited the video. This marks the launch of a new social distancing, social media practice challenge for NYYS students using the hashtag #PleaseDontStopTheMusic. You can watch the challenge results by following NYYS.

The NYYS is moving all of its programs to an online curriculum this spring to keep students musically active, engaged, and optimistic. There will be online seminars and master classes that are open to the public and will be announced as they are scheduled.

Online teaching requires a lot of coordination and extra effort from music teachers. Classical Post is grateful to all of them for stepping up to this challenge and for putting in the extra hours to keep the music going.
