Leonkoro Quartet: Forging Sound and Friendship Across Continents

In just six years, the Berlin-based Leonkoro Quartet has risen from university rehearsal rooms to stages across Europe and North America. Their journey began with joy—and that same spark still drives them. A pivotal early moment came when a YouTube video caught the attention of a major German agency, opening doors before they’d won any big prizes. Since then, the ensemble has taken on over 90 concerts a year, built deep mentorships with the Artemis and Alban Berg Quartets, and developed a sound that’s both precise and emotionally expansive.

Now, with their debut North American tour recently—spanning cities from California and Boston to Montreal—the quartet continues to grow, both artistically and personally. They cherish high-profile festivals like Salzburg, but it’s the unexpected, intimate performances that linger: a post-lockdown concert in a German town known for metal music left them stunned by the audience’s warmth. Offstage, their connection is just as strong, with members sharing passions from painting to woodworking. “Making music or making a table—it’s about shaping something that lasts.”

Looking ahead, their first album with Alpha Classics is set for release in January, marking a new chapter in their recording career. The quartet is also embracing their role as educators, aiming to share masterworks alongside overlooked repertoire. Through all their evolution, one thing remains clear: the Leonkoro Quartet is not just playing music—they’re building something lasting, joyful, and deeply human.
